I read one of Scott McCloud’s comic’s last module in Professor Tweedie’s class. I really liked the set up. At first I thought a comic would be cumbersome to read, but it sustained my attention more than a regular article normally would. The interesting topic that this comic poses is that we connect our selves and bodies with inanimate objects all the time, and they become apart of our functions. I never thought of this before, but McCloud’s ideas make sense. This brings up issues of identity and self, and how our society is increasingly becoming technology. When we can manipulate our appearance through technology either by being anonymous or creating a new one all together, we are becoming part of the technology we use. The computer is a blank canvas for many to choose their own appearances and lives. Since the computer aides in this, it is an extension of ourselves (or those who choose to use it that way). My laptop is as much involved in my writing process as my brain and my fingers. McCloud would say that the computer is therefore an extension of my senses, helping me perform my job. I am seeing the writing in front of me, hearing the keys clack, and feeling the keyboard to type individual letters. Our senses are sharpened by adapting to new technology daily. As this technology expands, perhaps people in the future will evolve to meet the demands of it, or create themselves accordingly
